Rediscovering the “Snug Room”
I’ve always been a proponent of cozier rooms, especially bedrooms where we spend a third of our lives. A cozier room is acoustically more restful compared to the higher ceilings we see in new construction. There is nothing more unappealing than a space that echos and irritates my senses in many ways. I watch animals look for tight spaces to sleep and rest. Why is this? It’s in our DNA to take refuge, be safe and hidden while we rest is true among the vast animal kingdom and humans too.
Well, now designers and architects and homeowners are answering what we already knew. They are creating a “Snug Room”
Let us rediscover the charm of the SNUG Room!
Here's a fun fact for you: Did you know that the SNUG room is making a nostalgic comeback? In a world of large, impressive spaces, people are realizing the appeal of a small, cozy place to snuggle up and unwind. Yay!
Originating hundreds of years ago as quiet alcoves in bustling British pubs and shadowy hideaways in grand English country estates, the SNUG room served as a tranquil retreat from the cacophony of ballrooms and vast halls. It was a space where one could comfortably sew, play instruments, or immerse themselves in a good book.
Unlike the larger, draftier common areas, the SNUG room offered a cozy cocoon with a warm fire, creating a staple of British interior design across eras and social classes. Whether it was a little den off the kitchen or a secluded spot for happy isolation, the SNUG room has found its place in homes, both urban and rural.
Rediscover the charm and allure of the SNUG room as a sanctuary within your own home. Create a cozy nook where you can indulge in quiet relaxation, hobbies, or cherished moments with loved ones.
