What is an Agrihood?

Do you ever find yourself yearning for more connectivity with nature, your neighbors, or even with your food… yet you don’t know quite where to start? For Brett Coleman and his family, their Agrihood adventure all began with this innate curiosity wondering what life could look like outside of the basic sprawling suburbs.

Brett and Lena Coleman documented their cross-country journey over 11 months, covering over 11,000 miles and visiting 21 Agrihood communities. Through the experience, they met wonderful people, saw some gorgeous communities, and ate some incredible food.

Even though the term agrihood refers to a community centered around an organic farm, or including some farming component, the Colemans realized that there are no two communities alike. Each has its own distinct character and offers different benefits and amenities. Some agrihoods were very socially oriented, while some had more space and were for residents who value privacy. In any case, connection to the land and knowing right where our food is coming from seems to make eating more fun and food taste better.
