Grounded in Nature: Seven Color Trends for 2025
No longer are we seeing cool gray or silver tones in interior design. The color trends for the new year focus on fostering wellbeing and creating spaces that feel warm, grounded, and connected to nature. Wood tones, textures and colors from natural materials are continuing to dominate the design world. This is my favorite time of year when designers and professionals give us their predictions and inspirations. Here are a few examples:
Mocha Mousse by Pantone: This versatile and grounding brown is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2025. It works beautifully in both bold and subtle palettes, offering a sense of harmony and understated elegance. It pairs well with warm neutrals, soft pastels, and nature-inspired shades like cornflower blue.
C2 Paint: Inspired by the ancient Japanese tea ceremony, C2 Raku draws from a centuries-old pottery technique known for its unique, variegated patterns. Raku is an earthy, burnt, brownish red with oxidized undertones that infuse spaces with drama and intimacy that exude a sense of security, simplicity, and sophistication.
Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year is Cinnamon Slate; a delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown, the color exudes warmth, comfort and sense of ease, and pairs well with Ben Moore’s Sea Salt and Leathered Saddle Brown.
Sherwin Williams also offers an array of colors “grounded” in nature. Grounded and Bosc Pear are two warm colors that pair well with their other 2025 colors; White Snow and Sunbleached - four of the nine colors in their Color Capsule for 2025.
Behr’s 2025 Color of the Year is Rumors — a rich deep ruby red reminiscent of a french burgundy wine. It would be perfect for a cozy “snug room”or kitchen cabinets for a bold statement.
Dunn-Edwards color for 2025 is Caramelized, a shade of terra-cotta brown that puts a modern twist on a warm earthy tone. Lead Color expert, Lauren Hoferkamp, says “in the current fast-paced, high tech age we find ourselves drawn to more saturated and timeless colors to create personal spaces that feel welcoming, stylish and grounded.”
Elderton by Graham and Brown is a medium brown and was chosen in part because of its versatility when it comes to blending design styles. “Elderton has a huge amount of depth, reconnecting us with nature and enhancing our relation to the earth” writes Paula Taylor, the brands lead stylist and trend specialist. Whether its Scandinavian or Farm House style, this warm brown conveys universal warmth.
Trends come and go but I believe these color palettes and design trends for 2025 will never go out of style. Nature is key to our wellbeing and these colors define and reflect our love for nature and living things. This deep and essential connection to nature fosters calmness, enhances mental health, and supports overall wellbeing.
