2025 Wellness Design Trends

Warm, natural materials will be an on-going design trend for 2025 and beyond…

Wellness interior design trends for 2025 focus on creating spaces that promote mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Drawing insights from the Global Wellness Institute and experts like Jamie Gold, wellness design consultant and best-selling author, key trends emphasize integrating nature, adaptive designs, and advanced technologies to enhance daily living.

  1. Biophilic Design: Incorporating nature into interiors continues to grow, with features like large windows, indoor plants, and natural materials such as wood, bamboo, and stone. These elements promote calmness and a connection to the outdoors, improving mental health and productivity.

  2. Neutral and Nature-Inspired Color Palettes: Colors like greens, blues, and soft neutrals dominate, as they evoke tranquility and balance. These tones create a soothing environment, reducing stress.

  3. Adaptive Lighting and Circadian Design: Homes are increasingly featuring lighting systems that mimic natural daylight patterns to support circadian rhythms, improving sleep quality and mood. For example, cooler tones in the morning and warmer, dimmer light in the evening.

  4. Multifunctional and Flexible Spaces: With a focus on adaptability, rooms are designed for multiple uses—such as transitioning from workspaces to relaxation zones. This flexibility supports diverse lifestyle needs. The Snug Room or a Meditation Room are examples.

  5. Focus on Mental Wellness: Dedicated spaces for meditation, yoga, and rest are becoming common. Features include noise reduction, comfortable seating, and minimalistic designs to encourage mindfulness. Consider acoustical panels or natural materials that will absorb noise and prevent distractions and irritation.

  6. Air Quality and Sustainability: Wellness-oriented designs now include air-purifying plants, non-toxic materials, and systems to improve indoor air quality. Sustainable materials like bamboo flooring and no-VOC finishes are also prioritized.

  7. Smart and Touchless Technology: Innovations like voice-activated or touchless devices are being integrated to improve convenience and cleanliness, fostering a healthier home environment.

  8. Soulful and Local Elements: Homes are increasingly featuring artisanal designs, locally sourced materials, and personalized items that resonate with the homeowner's identity and community. Consider the Japanese aesthetic; Wabi-Sabi which promotes soulful simplicity and encourages us to embrace a sense of calm and happiness which, in turn, benefits human health and wellbeing.

Wabi-Sabi is defined as a traditional Japanese aesthetic often described as appreciating beauty in nature that is imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. Wabi-sabi encourages us to recognize simple, natural living and to treasure what we already have.
